Malaysiakini has put up another two more Zunar cartoons. The first, dated 21 August 2007, is telling us that despite fifty years of independance, we are still under the yoke of the imperialists, though under a different guise.

The second, dated 29 August 2007, makes a comment at how apathy, at subconscious levels, prevents most Malaysians from proudly bearing the flag in the run-up to, and, during Malaysia’s 50th Independence Day celebrations. His take on the source of said apathy is perhaps our disappointment/disenchantment with our current leadership.
Well, I don’t know much about apathy, but one thing is for certain, I do feel a certain disconnect, living in this country. You know, John F. Kennedy, in his 1961 inauguration speech, asked the American public:
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.
What can I do for my country? I can do nothing, well, at least I don’t want to, since everybody most at the top are too busy protecting their rice bowls to care about the Rakyat, so monkey (KJ) lead, monkey do.
Looking out for number one. That’s the motto to adopt nowadays. Some may be selfless and think and act above themselves, but then, that’s their choice. I have been taught that nobody will look out for you, especially not the Government, so I’d better look out for myself first.
